In July and August 2025, you again have the unique opportunity to explore Dagestan and Georgia on our cross-border 4×4 self-drive tour.

July 2025 –  from Tbilisi/Georgia to Makhachkala/Dagestan

August 2025 – from Makhachkala/Dagestan to Tbilisi/Georgia

You will receive a detailed route suggestion, maps, and local contacts from us and explore Dagestan and Georgia as a self-driver in the UAZ 4×4 camper. Click here for more details on how our self-drive tours work.

We recommend 3-4 weeks for this trip.

Frequently Asked Questions about the Transcaucasus Tour 2025:

Can you travel to Russia? Do I need a visa?

Yes
For tourists in Russia, nothing has changed since 2022. Visas are issued as usual, and entry is also as usual.

On the occasion of our Transcaucasus tour 2024, we had 12 visitors from Germany who explored Dagestan. We received only positive feedback from our guests and other travelers who visited Russia in 2024.

Visa
For stays up to 16 days, you can conveniently apply for a Russia e-Visa online. For visits over 16 days, there are also longer tourist visas.

(For Georgia, you do not need any visa)

What will be the itinerary of the trip?

Two possible routes are offered:

In July: Georgia -> Dagestan

You fly to Tbilisi/Georgia, we pick you up from the airport, we do off-road training and vehicle briefing. You will receive a route suggestion, maps, and local contacts from us to explore Georgia and Dagestan on your own.

You fly directly home from Dagestan at the end of your trip (from Makhachkala airport, “MCX” via Istanbul)

In August:   Dagestan -> Georgia

(exactly the same trip as in July, only the travel direction is now reversed)

You fly via Istanbul to Makhachkala/Dagestan. We pick you up from the airport, we do off-road training and vehicle briefing. You will receive a route suggestion, maps, and local contacts from us to explore Dagestan and Georgia on your own.

You fly directly home from Georgia at the end of your trip (e.g., from Tbilisi airport)

Prices, booking & cancellation?

The prices are the same as our other self-drive tours in the 4×4 camper. Additionally, there is a surcharge of 390 euros to cover the extra effort of a cross-border trip (additional vehicle insurance, change to Russian license plates, power of attorney for border crossing, etc…)

In our booking calendar you can check yourself if there are still vacant cars for this special journey.
We would love to get to know you before you book this very special journey, please
just contact us.

Payment for your Transcaucasus Tour:

1)  20% of the travel costs are a deposit upon booking.

2) By the end of February 2025 at the latest, it will be confirmed whether the Transcaucasus tour will take place as planned. Then another 40% is to be paid

3)  The last 40% are due when we hand over the 4×4 camper to you.

Cancellation of a Transcaucasus Tour

1)  Until the end of February 2025, you can cancel your participation at any time and receive a full refund of your deposit.

If we do not confirm the tour in February 2025, you will, of course, receive your full deposit back.

2)  Once you have made the second payment, we count on your participation.

If you cannot participate in the tour and other participants do not fill your vacant spot, we reserve the right to retain your already made payment.

We recommend possibly taking out travel insurance that covers this case.

What do we do if... ?

We expect that travel to Russia will be possible in 2025. The e-Visas introduced in 2023 are a strong signal that tourists from Western countries are still welcome.

As a professional tour operator, we must of course also deal with unlikely scenarios.

To give you the best possible clarity, here are some “what do we do if…?”

  1. Entry to Russia not possible (no visas, border closed, martial law declared, etc.)
We will offer you an equivalent 4×4 self-drive tour in the South Caucasus, where you will get to know the most beautiful places in Georgia and Armenia.
  2. Political unrest in Russia (e.g., protests like after mobilization in fall 2022)
Demonstrations take place in the center of the capitals. Our tour, which leads through sparsely populated mountain regions, will not be affected.

Your safety and that you can enjoy your vacation relaxed is our top priority in all cases
