How do booking, balance payment & security deposit work? You book on our website and pay a 20% deposit by credit card. The remaining balance is due when you pick up the vehicle (ideally in cash). The security deposit is ... euros and is held in cash.
Route, Supplies & Camping
Can I wild camp anywhere? Yes! Driving and camping on public land is generally permitted without any issues in the Caucasus. Wild camping is also very popular among locals. Nobody will disturb you if you set up camp in a beautiful spot and light a campfire.
Can I drive wherever I want? Based on your preferences, local expertise, and experience, we create a suggested route to help you make the most of your time in the Caucasus. However, this is just a recommendation—you can structure your day completely freely as you wish.
When will we receive our route suggestion? We will discuss the general route and your wishes over the phone in advance. The exact route recommendation will then be created shortly before your arrival to account for current snow conditions, weather forecasts, road closures, etc.
Drinking water, food & fuel: You buy a few 5L water bottles at the start; you can refill these along the way anywhere with fresh drinking water. There are small shops and gas stations almost everywhere that you'll pass daily. For extra peace of mind, you'll also have a 20L spare fuel jerrycan, though you usually won't need to use it.
Power Supply, Hygiene & Sleeping
Power supply: USB Type C and USB A ports are available in the vehicle (no 220V power outlet).
Can more than 2 adults sleep in the car? Our vehicles are generally designed for two people. The mattress measures 140x200 cm—that works for three if traveling with a small child. For anything beyond that, we recommend bringing a small tent (the cars have 4 seats; the rear seats face backward).
Toilet & shower: There is a spade in the vehicle—you'll find a quiet spot anywhere in nature. Water bottles with a shower attachment in the car provide a quick refresh.
What should you bring? We're happy to send you a packing list tailored to the season of your visit.
More Questions
In a UAZ camper with children? Our 4x4 campers can be fitted with child seats for 1–3 kids (however, for 2 or more children, we recommend bringing a tent).

Payment / cash: In Georgia, you can pay by card almost everywhere or exchange euros. In Dagestan, you need to bring cash in euros, which we're happy to exchange into rubles for you on site.
Kutaisi as the start or end of my trip? Vehicles are handed over only in Tbilisi. However, there is a convenient direct bus connection from Kutaisi Airport to Tbilisi that you're welcome to use.
Wild animals: Where wolves and bears live in the Caucasus, you can't reach by car anyway.

Example: 14-Day 4x4 Self-Drive Tour in Georgia
Day 1: After vehicle handover in Tbilisi, our briefing, and off-road driving training, your adventure begins. You stock up on supplies for the first few days and spend the night at a former Soviet military airfield.
Days 2 to 4: Traversing semi-deserts and national parks. Explore rugged canyons, bubbling mud volcanoes, ancient rock-cut monasteries, and the colorful Rainbow Mountains. You spend your evenings by secluded water reservoirs and idyllic camping spots in nature.
Days 5 to 7: Continue toward dramatic gorges and explore the ruins of long-abandoned towns. Adventurous tracks lead you up into the highlands to hidden mountain lakes, historic cave towns, and hot springs for a relaxing soak. You are warmly invited to visit a local cheese dairy—and of course, tasting homemade wine is a must.
Days 8 to 10: Cross a mountain pass with breathtaking panoramic views. Passing ancient fortresses, you descend into a lush valley where a special highlight awaits: A private cooking class with a local family who will introduce you to the secrets of traditional regional cuisine.
Days 11 to 13: The ultimate off-road highlight: Driving up one of the most spectacular mountain roads in the world, deep into the remote High Caucasus. Discover the region's famous defense towers, hike to abandoned ghost villages, relax in hot springs, and enjoy unforgettable campsites along panoramic trails and mountain passes.
Day 14: After an impressive descent from the mountains, you bring the camper back to Tbilisi. You are warmly invited to dinner before heading back to the airport.

UAZ 4x4 Self-Drive Tour:
1. Booking & Payment Terms
You can make your booking directly in the calendar. The minimum rental period for our 4x4 campers is 7 days. With a 20% deposit, your vehicle is reserved and the booking is confirmed via email.
The remaining balance is paid upon vehicle handover on site (e.g., in cash in euros).
2. Cancellations & Rebookings
Cancellations and changes must be submitted in writing via email to office@uazfamily.com.
For cancellations or changes made less than 30 days before the first rental day, we reserve the right to retain payments already made.
3. Countries & Passengers
Our vehicles are allowed for travel in Georgia and Dagestan. For trips to other countries (e.g., Armenia), please contact us in advance.
Each camper is designed for 2 adult guests. If you are traveling with children or additional passengers, please message us prior to booking.
4. Limitation of Liability
We accept no liability for personal injuries or damage to personal items/luggage. Matters not covered here will be handled in accordance with the local laws of the host country.
