September is one of our favourite months in Dagestan. The beautiful colours of autumn are already showing while the weather is just perfect for travelling.
For two weeks we drove deep into the Caucasus and explored the regions along the Chechen and Georgian border to fill last white spaces on our personal Dagestan map.
Travelling extensively this year, we are very grateful to have met so many wonderful people on our journeys. We are especially happy when sometimes we can give back a little and share tips and encouragement on the future of tourism in Dagestan, more below.
All the best
Andreas and Svetlana
Opening A Guesthouse
A long time Muhamad has been dreaming about opening a guesthouse in his native village Khahib. We met him there to see the ancient watchtowers and provide some tips. And guess what – the next days he was already serving tea and shashlik to the passing hungry tourists. Great to see how a few kind words of encouragement can turn dreams into reality.
Encouraging Tourism
The administration of the region Botlikh welcomed us with open arms. Ruslan, responsible for tourism in the very west of Dagestan was not only a great host – he was also very open to hear our opinion on how to best attract guests to all the wonderful spots his region has to offer. Stay tuned for some great developments in and around Botlikh in the future.
In The News
The German speaking Newspaper in Moscow printed an article about our unique vacations in their latest edition, click on the picture above to read it.
Long Walk Home
After spending the whole summer in the mountains, sheep are currently taking over the streets. Only 200km remain to their winter quarters. The shepherds told us with a smile on their faces that this is just a 14 days walk for them and their impressive flock of 2000(!) sheep.
Travel restrictions & visa
Unfortunately, nothing changed here since last month. All travel restrictions remain in place.
Like in many other countries sadly the Covid infection numbers in Russia and especially Moscow are showing an upward trend again.
